2020 INDYCAR DRIVERS without IndyCar Rides
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Updated: 04/27/2021
Nov 11 - Meyer Shank Racing hired Helio Castroneves to drive a
second car (#6) for them in 2021.  They hope to run the car in 10
races.

The 3-time Indy 500 winner has been competing in IMSA full-time
since 2018, driving for
Team Penske. They won the DPi class
championship this year for Acura.
Nov 23 - Chip Ganassi Racing has signed Tony Kanaan to a multi-
year deal to drive its No. 48 for the ovals tracks, complementing the
road and street course events being contested in that car by
Jimmie
Johnson
.
Dec 8 - The Gainbridge sponsorship that Zach Veach brought to both
the Indy Speedway and the
Andretti Autosport team will continue!
Colton Herta has been shifted from the #88 Harding Steinbrenner
car to the #26 Andretti entry sponsored by Gainbridge.
Dec 16 - Dalton Kellett has re-signed with AJ Foyt Racing and will
contest all 17 races in 2021. He switches from car number #14 to #4.
The former Indy Lights driver competed in 7 IndyCar road races in
2020 with a best finish of 20th. He also raced in the Indy 500.
Kellett will again be sponsored by K Line Insulators USA.
Dec 18 - Conor Daly will again pilot the #20 U.S. Air Force Chevy on
road and street courses at Ed Carpenter racing, while Ed Carpenter
races it on the oval tracks.  Daly will race in a third ECR entry for the
Indy 500.
Jan 14, 2021 - Ryan Hunter-Reay extended his contract with
Andretti Autosport to drive the #28 Honda.  This will be the 12th year
in a row that the  2012 series champion/2014 Indy 500 winner will drive
for the team with sponsor DHL.
Jan 15, 2021 - Marco Andretti has decided to stop racing IndyCars,
except for the Indy 500.  "I definitely am going to keep driving. I still have
a deep passion for it and have unfinished business to take care of and
some boxes that I want to check before I consider retiring as a driver."
Jan 24, 2021 - It's been reported that Dale Coyne Racing has offered
Formula 1 driver,
Romain Grosjean, a full-time IndyCar ride and that
Peugeot wants him for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.  Grosjean says he is
weighing his options.
Jan 26, 2021 - Six-time IndyCar race-winner James Hinchcliffe will
become a full-time
Andretti Autosport Honda driver in 2021, as
Genesys steps up its commitment to the popular Canadian racer.
Jan 27, 2021 - Ed Jones makes his return to IndyCar after having sat
out of the series in 2020.  The 2016 Indy Lights Champion will be driving
the No. 18 SealMaster Honda for
Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser
Sullivan
.  The Brit previously raced IndyCars for Dale Coyne (2017),
Chip Ganassi (2018) and Ed Carpenter (2019).
Jan 29, 2021 - Dale Coyne Racing welcomes Rick Ware Racing to a
partnership to campaign the No. 51 Honda on a full-time basis, and an
additional car, the No. 52 Honda, as a part-time effort.
RWR is a staple in stock car racing and steps into the empty co-entrant
position filled by Team Goh in 2020.
The team said they would announce drivers next week.
Jan 30, 2021 - In an interview during the Rolex 24, 25-year-old Cody
Ware
said that he was going to do some IndyCar races this year.  Ware
recently signed to race full-time in the Nascar Cup series for Rick Ware
Racing.  I expect he is the driver that will be driving the #52 Honda,
mentioned above.  He has 23 Cup races under his belt, and he won the
Asian LeMans series championship last year.
Feb 3, 2021 - Romain Grosjean has joined Dale Coyne Racing to
race at all IndyCar events in 2021 except for the three oval tracks.
The 34-year-old Frenchman has spent the past nine seasons racing
in Formula 1.  He survived a horrific fiery accident Nov 29, 2020
during the Bahrain Grand Prix, and his burned hands are still healing.
Feb 11, 2021 - Charlie Kimball will be back at AJ Foyt Racing driving
the No. 11 Chevy in the Indy Grand Prix and the Indy 500 in May.
Novo Nordisk continues their sponsorship of Kimball.

part-time
Mar 4, 2021 - Roman Grosjean does not want to race on ovals, so
Dale Coyne has hired Pietro Fittipaldi to fill in for him at those races
in the No. 51 entry.  Fittipaldi drove a partial season for Coyne' Indy
Car team in 2018.

Fittipaldi is the reserve driver for the Haas Formula 1 which Grosjean
raced for, so they know each other.  Pietro filled in for Grosjean in F1
last year when Grosjean was injured at the end of the season.

Fittipaldi is the grandson of two-time Indy 500 winner Emerson Fittipaldi.
Mar 5, 2021 - Max Chilton will race for Carlin again.  Other than the
Indy 500, Chilton will not race on the other ovals (Iowa and Texas.)
Perhaps Conor Daly will drive the Carlin racer at those events.
Mar 27, 2021 - Carlin Racing announced Conor Daly will drive Chilton's
No. 59 racer at the two races on the Texas oval track this weekend.
Between this and driving for Ed Carpenter Racing, all that is missing for
Daly is the Iowa race, and I would not be surprised to see Carlin run him
at this race too.  He captured pole at that track last year for Carlin.
