Julyl 23 - Indianapolis car dealership Dreyer &
Reinbold created an IndyCar team that raced from
2000-2012. Lack of sponsorship limited their
racing afterwards to mainly the Indy 500.
The desire by owner Dennis Reinbold to return
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing to full-time racing may
happen in 2027, although Reinbold died this past
June.
The team has purchased an IndyCar charter from
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, who will reduce
the size of their team to two cars next year.

Practice
July 24 - Christopher Bell set the pace in
NASCAR Cup Series practice, leading a Toyota
sweep of the top five in Friday afternoon’s session
at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Bell’s No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota posted a
best lap of 183.512 mph in the first on-track
activity ahead of Sunday’s Brickyard at the 2.5
mile oval.
John Hunter Nemechek was second-fastest in
the No. 42 Legacy Motor Club Toyota, clocking in
at 183.180 mph. Ty Gibbs ranked third in
practice, with Erik Jones and Cup Series points
leader Denny Hamlin completing the top five in
that order.
A handful of drivers encountered trouble early on
in the 50-minute session. Defending Brickyard 400
winner Bubba Wallace was the first to find a snag
with a scrape of the outside retaining wall in Turn

Ryan Preece’s No. 60 RFK Racing Ford also
slowed when his left-rear tire went down with 22
minutes left in practice.

PENNZOIL 250 Race Notes
July 25 - In an event that featured just one caution for an on-track incident, Carson Kvapil
passed Ross Chastain on Lap 79 of 100 and held it the rest of the way. Justin Allgaier
powered past Chastain into second place on Lap 94 and closed his deficit to Kvapil to
less than a car-length on the white-flag lap.
Crossing the Yard of Bricks with one lap left, Allgaier trailed by a scant 0.283 seconds,
but his efforts to shrink the distance on the final circuit proved fruitless, and Kvapil crossed
the stripe with a 0.643-second advantage to score his first victory.
JR Motorsports scored the first four-driver sweep of an event in series history, with
Kvapil, Allgaier, Chastain and Chase Elliott in positions one through four.
The victory was the 14th of the season for JRM with six different drivers, the latter
number tying the record the organization set last year. For the 79th straight race,
JR Motorsports placed at least one driver in the top 10, tying the record set by RFK
Racing from 2008-2010.

backwards, bringing out the first caution. He is ok.

Lap 61 - Chase Elliott in car no. 9 bumped the wall and blew rear tire. Brought out a short caution.
After a look in the pits, he was sent back to the garage. That makes two of the four Hendrick
Motorsports cars out of the race.
Lap 96 - Daniel Dye car no. 78 (Live Fast Motorsports) blew left rear tire, spun and backed into turn 3
wall just like Larson's wreck. It also happened just before the end of a stage.

Lap 105 - Gibbs leads at the restart.
Lap 115 - Caution - Debris on the race track. 34 cars on lead lap.
All of the cars pit when the pits opened.

Corey Heim car No. 67 (23XI Racing) is first out of the pits, followed by Denny Hamlin car no. 11

Lap 120 - Crash in Turn 3 on the restart brings out 5th caution.

In-Season Challenge Winner
The In-Season Challenge is a five-race, bracket-style tournament that takes place over the summer.
Thirty-two drivers qualified for the challenge and competed in head-to-head matchups over five
consecutive races, culminating with the Champions Round at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where
Todd Gilliland edged out Ryan Blaney for the $1 million prize!
Gilliland drives the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford, sponsored by Grillo's Pickles. (They're good!)

New Indy Car Planned for 2028
July 28 - IndyCar shared some data on the much anticipated new IndyCar design, set to debut for
the 2028 season. Dubbed the IR-28, it will weigh approximately 100 pounds less than the current car
and sit higher. The car will remain a hybrid-powered racer with a new 2.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6
engine.
Testing for the new car is already set to begin in a few days. IndyCar drivers Alex Palou and
Alexander Rossi will put it through its paces Aug 1-2 at the Indy Motor Speedway.

- A transparent window in the engine cover for fans
- Low-voltage hybrid technology will have greater power storage, more deployment options and be 20
- The new hybrid platform will feature a battery-based Energy Storage System (ESS) that delivers
- Spec wheels will be BBS from Germany.
- The cockpit will be a little larger.
- Enhanced internal airflow in cockpit and driver cooling
- The front wing will consist of 2 flaps for superspeedways and a higher-downforce 3-wing for road &
