Indianapolis 500 OPENING DAY
May 12, 2012
Today was a beautiful sunny day in the 70's.

I parked my Corvette in the 3rd turn infield.

At noon, Josef Newgarden began to practice.
He is driving for Sarah Fisher Racing.

There was no refreshments available in the 3rd turn.
I was really thirsty.  I hired a bicycle taxi to take me
up to the Pagoda Plaza.
There was a very nice car show
at the speedway today with
vehicles from 1920-1970.

Cords
Duesenbergs
Cadillacs
Bugattis
Ferarri
Jaguar
Rolls Royce
and many other marks
Graham Rahal
As people streamed through here
to enter the garage area, all these
yellow shirts were there to keep
me out.

I appeared to be the only person
without a pass.
Charlie Kimball
very skinny Jaegermeister Girl
The New McLaren!!
I hired another bicycle taxi to get
back to my car at 3 p.m.

Not many cars practicing today.

There was a course set up over
northeast of the museum where
electric go-karts raced.  I heard
they were college teams.
I ran into friends Joy and Alaina.
Here they are posing in front of one
of the two Olds 442s actually used
as a pace car in 1970.
A visitor gets interviewed by the
500 media staff.
It was cool seeing the new IndyCar
in superspeedway trim.

The rear wing is radically different
from the road course setup.
