Honda & Chevy Extend IndyCar Support & Get Charters in 2028

Feb 12 - IndyCar today announced a multiyear commitment from Chevrolet and Honda
to continue as official Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) of IndyCar. Each
OEM agreement will commence in 2027 and run for multiple years.

The IndyCar charter system was originally announced in September 2024, with a
maximum of three awarded per team.  The two OEMs will be entitled to own a charter
to be utilized beginning with the 2028 IndyCar season when a new race car debuts.

Having an IndyCar Charter provides a payout from the series at the end of the season
that is over $1 million per car if the entry finishes in the top 22 in points.  Extending a
charter to the two manufacturers will allow them to add a third car to a 2-car Team.

Honda began IndyCar competition in 1994 and has been a continuous and key fixture
on IndyCar grids as an engine supplier for over 30 years – including six seasons as the
sole engine supplier. The 2025 IndyCar season marked its 11th manufacturers’ title in
multiple manufacturer competition and the fifth in the last eight years.

Chevrolet is a nine-time champion since its return to the sport 14 seasons ago in 2012.
Including the 1988-93 and 2002 titles, Chevrolet has won 16 total IndyCar
manufacturer championships.  General Motors President
Mark Reuss said. “The
addition of a charter allows Chevrolet to join with other stakeholders to continue to
make the series even stronger."

FOX IndyCar Helmet Cam Needs Work

Feb 18 - Fox television became the broadcast partner for IndyCar last year.  One of their
innovations was trying out a micro HD camera attached to a driver's helmet which provided a
view from the cockpit as close to the driver's as possible.

That is a fine idea for helping the viewer feel the excitement and what it is like from the cockpit.

Unfortunately, Fox lost track of that basic premise and cluttered up the screen with graphics,
obscuring a large part of the view.  This was especially annoying in corners where the track
bent to the left and was obscured by the graphics.  The viewer is unable to imagine themselves
in the cockpit when they can't can't even see the course ahead!

Another mistake Fox made was to allow the announcers to keep chattering away during hemet
cam segments.  They should have silenced them and allowed the viewers to hear just the
sounds of the car.

Without these two mistakes, a viewer would have been able to immerse himself during the
segments.

Anyway, Fox has announced they will be adding six such helmet cams to the series this year.
I hope they read this and take heed.

If not for the chatter and graphics, viewers with a large TV
would be able to get into it and pretend they were in the car.

Military Defense Co. Sponsoring IndyCar Driver

Feb 25 - The sponsor for Car No. 19 at Dale Coyne Racing for Norwegian rookie
Dennis Hauger is Nammo.  It sounds like ammo and their logo looks like a bullet.
It turns out that the name and logo are apropos, but Nammo is short for Nordic
Ammunition Company.

They are a Norwegian-Finnish aerospace and defense group specializing in the
production of ammunition, rocket engines and space applications.

They seem like a strange sponsor for an American race series, however I doubt
they are trying to use advertising to target military and space leaders, pardon the
pun, but are just supporting a local athlete.
