IMS Museum Car Auction

Feb 1 - The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is auctioning off 11 cars from their collection.
They hope the cars will fetch $106 million. That w
ould help cover the cost of the renovation and
remodel that the museum has been undergoing for the past year.

IMS Museum Remodel Planned

The museum chose these vehicles, not only for their high value, but because they have no relation
to the speedway and hence does not meet the museum's mission of celebrating and preserving
the history behind the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indy 500.

I am going to miss them though and am sad to see them go, especially the 1954 Mercedes W196,
1957 Corvette SS Project XP-64, and the Spirit of America Sonic 1 land speed record car.

9 of them will be sold at Sotheby’s in Miami Feb 27-28.

The 1954 Mercedes W196 sold at the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart Germany today for
$53,226,500.
This is the 2nd highest price ever paid for a car at auction.  The car was gifted to
the museum in 1965 by Mercedes-Benz.  It was raced by both Juan Fangio and Sterling Moss.
The new museum opens to the public April 2nd.
Three of the cars being auctioned off - from front to rear:
the silver 1954 Mercedes W196, the blue 1957 Corvette SS, and the red 1964 Ferrari 250 LM.
The Spirit of America broke 600 mph in 1965 and held the land speed record until 1970.
Feb 3 - Andretti Global launched their 2025 IndyCar Liveries.
