"Miss Julie K. Pratt, a brown-haired, brown-eyed
freshman at Ball State Teachers College, is from
Indianapolis.  She is 5' 7 1/2" tall, weighs 130 lbs
and measures 34-24-36.

She is also Miss Ball State.

A newly-initiated member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority,
she is majoring in education and hopes to teach
kindergarten.

The 18-year-old girl is a graduate of Public School
57 and Thomas Carr Howe High School.  She
attends Irvington Presbyterian Church.

She was honorary colonel and Howe Military Ball
Queen last year.  In 1957 whe was Indiana State
DeMolay Sweetheart.

The new queen's hobbies are swimming, music,
reading and sports."
Since 1947, Hollywood movie stars have presented the winner of the Indianapolis 500 with the
Borg-Warner trophy and a kiss.  That tradition changed in 1960.  The 500 Festival Queen began
presenting the trophy and the winner's wreath in victory circle.

of May.
While making these web pages
on the 500 princesses, I noticed
the
y did not have long hair until
1970.

I wondered how far back that
went.

I looked at photos of previous
Miss America's and had to go
back to the 1920s to find
beauty
queens
wearing their hair long.
