DETROIT GRAND PRIX
PPG CART World Series at Belle Isle

Sunday, June 12, 1994
Jay and I drove up from Indy to Michigan to attend the CART race at Belle Isle.

We stayed at the Drury Inn in Troy.

We went to the track on Friday for practice.  I was used to practice being free at Indy.
These guys were wanting something like $50!  I said, "Screw that!" and left.

We came back the next day for qualifying though.

Our Detroit friends, Koz and E.T., met us at our hotel room Saturday night for a little pre-party.
I found the negatives from this race and scanned them into
my computer so I could create this page. -
February 2021.
We drove to Canada into the town of
Windsor, which was just across some
water from Detroit.

We swung by a casino, but it looked
crowded and we didn't go in.

They had regaled me with tales of the
awesome
Windsor strip club, but we
went to a bar instead.

Koz recalls, "Saturday night we went to
Canada and partied hard.  I remember

driving up the Lodge freeway on the
way back, jamming "Wango Tango" at
full volume!!!"

The song I remember jamming to was

"Shine" by Collective Soul. We'd all
shout "Yeah" when the band did.

On Lap 20, Dominic Dobson spun going into Turn 1,
collecting Alessandro Zampedri, and they both hit the wall.
It was a fun night for sure.
All four of us went to the race on Sunday.
