March 5, 2026 - With Colton Herta's selection as test driver for the new
Cadillac Formula 1 Team, Herta has paused his IndyCar job and will be
racing in Formula 2 this year - the training ground for F1 - in order to
increase his chances of being hired as an F1 driver.

He will be driving for the Hitech team.

Summary of What Led to Herta's Foray into F2

Michael Andretti began trying to start a Formula 1 team years ago.
Andretti driver Colton Herta was often mentioned as a possible driver.

After years of back and forth, Andretti Autosport ended up being taken
over and renamed Andretti Global, with the founder moved to role of
"advisor." Negotiations progressed and now Michael's goal has come
true with the formation of a new team - Cadillac Formula 1 Team,
increasing the number of F1 teams to eleven.

For its first year, Cadillac has hired two veteran drivers - Valtteri Bottas
and Sergio Perez. In addition, they hired Colton Herta as a test driver.

With that position, Herta has a hope of getting an F1 ride. To aid in that
dream, he decided to exit IndyCar and spend 2026 racing in F1's training
ground - Formula 2.

There, he'll get to experience many of the Formula 1 race tracks and
learn their cars and ways of doing things.

In addition, he'll gain points toward earning the required F1 Super
License. He currently has 34 license points earned in IndyCar over the
past couple of years, but needs 40. He will earn those points if he can
finish the season in 8th or better.

Having a Super License doesn't guarantee an F1 ride of course. Winning
the F2 championship could carry more weight with Cadillac F1 than
having an American driver.
