Sam Hornish, Jr. and Marlboro Team Penske
won the 2006 Indycar Championship as well as the Indy 500.
This was Hornish's 3rd IRL Championship and Penske's first!
Team Penske (Castroneves and Hornish) fought neck and neck with Target Chip Ganassi
(Dixon and Wheldon) throughout the season all the way to the last race, where all four
drivers were capable of winning the championship.
Marco Andretti beat out Jeff Simpson for 2006 Indycar Rookie Of The Year.
He also won Indy 500 Rookie of the Year honors after he finished in 2nd.
He won the road race at Sonoma.
The racer drives for Andretti-Green Racing.
Sam Hornish passed Marco Andretti on the final lap, less than 500
feet from the finish line of the Indianapolis 500, winning by 0
.0635
of a second.
