Homicides in Indianapolis rose again in 2021.
The local NBC channel, reporting that IMPD Chief Randy Taylor hopes new technology and more
officers will help reduce crime in 2022, said there 271 homicides in Indianapolis in 2021.
The local ABC channel says that there were another 10 homicides when counting the towns inside
Indianapolis, such as Lawerence and Speedway.
Local CBS channel also reported 271 homicides and noted that 22 were classified as self-defense,
defense of another, recklessness or “officer-involved.” The article also stated, "Five bills were
filed by Marion County lawmakers last month that seek to reform the criminal justice system and
address the city’s high murder rate."
In another article, the CBS station reported that there were 746 victims wounded by shootings this
year, involving 661 incidents in Indianapolis in 2021.
