IMAX 3D Theater
Located downtown by Washington Street and West Street, next door to the Eiteljorg
Museum. This place is cool! Their lobby is like a small INDY 500 museum. They have
a very large flat movie screen that is 6 stories high but the movie is very clear!
Movies last 50 minutes and they are open 7 days a week. Movie prices are around
$6-7 for adults. Some of their movies are in 3D and you have to wear special glasses.
The Eiteljorg Museum
This downtown museum is dedicated to
Indian and Western Art. The Bottom floor
consists mainly of paintings and
sculptures. The upper floor has many
relics from the American Indians, such as
their clothes, teepees, etc. It's pretty neat
and its FREE!
Indianapolis Museum of Art
This museum is located on the near north west side. They have a nice selection;
from ancient Egyptian artifacts to Rembrandt to Art Deco. On the grounds, you can
tour a 18th century home, walk among the gardens or enjoy some large modern art
sculptures (which look like playground equipment to me).
Eat at the Wolfgang Puck restaurant too!
Conner Prairie Museum
This place is close to the city buy out in the country. It is a recreated 18th century
settlement. The people who work there dress and talk as if it were still 1750. See the
homes, a boarding house, schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, etc. They have various
special events, including summertime outdoor concerts by the symphony.
The Indianapolis Zoo
Located downtown, this zoo keeps getting better and better.
There are Polar Bears, Black Bears, Aquariums, Tigers, Kangaroos, Elephants,
Rhinos, Seals, etc. They have a dolphin exhibit.
There is also a nice zoo 2 hours north in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The Children's Museum
The Largest children's museum in the world, It
has five floors. If you have children (any age),
definitely a place to visit. They can learn and
have fun. There is a cafeteria, planetarium,
carousel, trains, arts, the Dinosphere and more.

NCAA Hall of Champions
Located in White River State Park in downtown
Indianapolis. The national headquarters for the
NCAA is in Indy.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum
This museum is located on the grounds of the speedway. Open all year long.
There are many awesome race cars and a gift store.
If weather permits and if there are no racecars testing, you can take a bus tour
around the legendary 2.5 mile track.
Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Monument - Civil War - located in
center of city where Market St intersects Meridian St. You can go to the
top of the monument or explore the lower level and you will discover the
Col. Eli Lilly Civil War Museum.
The 284-foot Indiana limestone memorial was dedicated in 1902 in honor
of Indiana’s soldiers and sailors who served in the Civil and Spanish-
American Wars. Various works of art surround the monument, including
“War” and “Peace,” sculpted by Rudolf Schwarz. Schwarz also designed
“The Dying Soldier,” “The Homefront” and the four statues at the corners
of the monument, representing the Infantry, Calvary, Artillery and Navy.
These memorials are located along the north end of the Canal in White
River State Park:
U.S.S. Indianapolis Memorial - Walnut St. & Senate Ave., Central
Canal.
The Indianapolis was the last American ship to be sunk in WWII.
It carried the atomic bombs on a secret mission; so secret, that it was a
week before anyone knew it had sunk. Only 317 of the 1,200 sailors
survived the shark-infested waters. (This story is told in the movie Jaws
by Captain Quint.)
Admiral Raymond Spruance Memorial Basin - This Hoosier naval
hero's flagship was the USS Indianapolis and his monument is located on
the north end of the Downtown Central Canal near the USS Indianapolis
Memorial
Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial - Recognizes the 3,459
recipients of the nation's highest military honor from 15 major wars and
conflicts. The memorial is arranged by 27 curved glass walls between
seven and 10 feet high each.
American Legion Mall extending from St. Clair Street to North Street
between Meridian and Pennsylvania, is home to the National American
Legion HQ and these memorials:
The World War II Memorial - Located on the east side, is the first
memorial to be shaped like a half-circle.
The Korean and Vietnam Wars Memorial is located on the southern
end of the mall. The two appear to be separate entities, but in actuality,
they combine to become one memorial.
Indiana War Memorial and Museum - This memorial, honoring
those who fought in both World Wars, Korea and Vietnam, took 25 years
to complete. One of the largest memorials in Indianapolis, it stands 210
feet tall. It occupies an entire city block of the War Memorial Plaza
between Meridian and Pennsylvania Streets to the east and west and
Michigan and Vermont streets to the north and south. The Indiana War
Memorial is comprised of three floors. I highly recommend going in and
checking out the Shrine Room.
University Park is the oldest portion of the Indiana War Memorial Plaza,
Veterans’ Memorial Plaza is located north of the Indiana War Memorial.
On the north side of the Plaza wave the American flag and 50 flags
representing each state. The 100-foot tall Obelisk fountain in the center
of the park stands as a symbol of the hopes, strength and desires of this
nation. Near the base of the Obelisk are representations of law, science,
religion and education.
Firefighters Memorial - This small garden tribute to the firefighters who
lost their lives in the deadliest fire in Indianapolis history is located in
front of Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery at 10 W. Washington St. In
1890, eighty-six firemen fought the fire, 13 of them losing their lives in the
blaze.
Indiana Law Enforcement & Firefighters Memorial - This memorial
stands as a tribute to the more than 600 Indiana policemen and
firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty. It is located east
of the Indiana Government Center.
University Park
Located south of the Indiana War Memorial between Vermont Street and New York
Street. Beautifully landscaped and decorated with statues. In the center of the park
is the Depew Fountain. There are five levels to the fountain. A sculpture of President
Benjamin Harrison (Indiana's only president) stands on the south center edge of the
park with statues of Abraham Lincoln at the southeast corner and Schuyler Colfax
(Vice President under Grant) in the east center portion of the park.
